The Stingray came back fully redesigned this year to become the industry’s most awarded car of the year. Said awards include Automobile magazine’s Automobile of the Year, the Detroit Free Press’s Car of the Year, and Car and Driver’s 10 Best for 2014.
Sharing just two parts with the previous rendition, the 2014 Corvette Stingray features an aluminum frame on all models. The chassis is five sections of hydroformed, cast or extruded aluminum. This makes it about 100 pounds lighter as well as 60% stiffer with the roof in place. Suspension has also been redesigned with stiffness in mind using upsized Bilstein shocks on the Z51. There’s also the option for magnetic shocks. Wheels are 18 inches in the front and 19 inches on the rear, or 19 inches and 20 inches on the Z51, coupled with Pilot Super Sport Run-Flats. New Brembo brakes are said to make the Stingray stop 11 feet shorter than before, and the steering support structure is said to be 500% stiffer.
Power – and lots of it – comes from the latest update to the renowned small-block V-8. At 6.2 liters, the naturally aspirated engine pumps out up to 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque that’s able to go from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds.
The list goes on and on. Suffice to say, the Stingray deserves every award it has gotten. With such a car, quality accessories simply come naturally. Here are a few to start.
What better place to start than the makers of the car? Chevrolet offers a cargo security shade to hide any possessions you may leave in the car to avoid tempting criminal elements into smashing your windows and stealing your stuff. While you’re at it, you can get the five piece luggage set specially designed for the Corvette.
If you plan to do a lot of long distance driving, you may want to consider other car exterior accessories such as Chevrolet’s front end cover to protect your car from flying debris. When driving around one of the 31 states that require front license plates, a front aero panel fastens to the front fascia without needing any drilled holes.
Speaking of long distance driving, the Valentine One remains the top radar detector on the market. While not directly from Chevrolet, this device perfectly complements such an awesome feat of engineering as the Stingray. Its effectiveness has been proven since it was introduced in 1991, and remains peerless to this day. Unfortunately, the included suction cup mount seems like a joke. So much that the owner of Great Lakes Trophies & Engraving (himself a long time Corvette enthusiast) designed his own Valentine One Corvette mounting bracket. With this mount, the Valentine One can attach seamlessly to the rearview mirror or the visor.
Of course, a car is never complete without the person in the driver’s seat. Celebrate your relationship with such a great car by getting a few accessories for yourself as well. Maybe start with Chevrolet’s book on the car, “Corvette Stingray: The Seventh Generation of America’s Sports Car”. There are also several choices of C7 Corvette pendants, such as the Diamond Set Dog Tag. For the ladies, there is the Black Cuff Bracelet or the Black Leather ID Bracelet. Several designs of metal signs can be mounted on your garage or home, and tables and stools with the Stingray emblem would look great in any room. You can even get a Corvette carbon fiber iPhone 5 casing, cordial glass or coffee mug.
It is easy to see why so many people end up living and breathing everything Corvette. The seventh generation only adds to this group of car engineering connoisseurs. With so many accessories available to boot, owning a Corvette just keeps getting more and more fun.
We at Great Lakes Trophies & Engraving are always ready to talk about all things Corvette. Please stop by our social accounts and tell us what you think of our list and our mounting bracket. We look forward to hearing from you.
